My 3.75 star review of Tomorrow I Become a Woman If you want to be angry. If you haven't felt anger at a book recently and that's a feeling you're looking for, please pick up this book. I sighed so much, I hissed, I silent screamed, I dropped it in frustration and opened it again in anticipation. Tomorrow I Become a Woman tells a story through 20 years. It follows Uju as a young woman, just entering her adulthood. We see how she is pressured into an early marriage by family and society, and navigates love, marriage, and the unrelenting expectations that come with being a “good woman.” This is a story about how love can cage you. How family can wound you in the name of duty. How womanhood, in all its beauty, can sometimes feel like a punishment. But it’s also a story about strength. There are moments where you see Uju begin to understand what is happening to her and how she almost breaks free, but the unrelenting weight of expectations and fear of societal shun always takes her back to square one.
