Degen is building a community-first social app on Farcaster where people share ideas and reward posts with tips in channel-based discussions. It also operates its own chain where transaction fees are paid in DEGEN to support social and trading-style apps.
Vision
The team aims to deliver a community-first Farcaster client that elevates channel discussion and tipping. With the airdrop phase finished, the focus is on launching the app and growing the largest community around this ecosystem.
How it works
The Degen miniapp lets people tip directly from their wallet with one-click likes and configurable amounts, including support for Coinbase’s smart-wallet product. The team has outlined that in Degen App, tipping will be funded from users’ balances and the legacy vault-based tip allowances will be removed.
Community design
From 2024–2025, creator rewards ran in seasons where users locked DEGEN in a vault to receive daily tip allowances and creators accrued points for periodic claims; the program has concluded and locked tokens were released. The project also funds builders through grants such as Deploy on Degen Week and has shifted liquidity-mining rewards to an external partner.
